Cigarettes and Expired Polariods

"So wtf is this?" you may ask.

  • A fancy cigarette box? or a lighter perhaps?
  • A wonderful case to hold those ever so important Pokemon cards?
  • Maybe a sample for a new flooring plan...
  • Or better yet, a leather clad beating paddle for those naughty school kids? (hey, anything works!)
  • Could it be a vintage transformer toy?
  • Chocolate?
  • A newly discovered species??!?

If you guessed a transformer, you are right!---well, sort of. After much trouble from my part trying to 'open' this mystery item, wonder turned in to amazement....

Behold the SX - 70!

Yes indeed, you are looking at a vintage Polaroid SX-70 Land camera manufactured in the early 70's. Otherwise known as the first SLR to produce instant images on film. Pretty amazing if you ask me.
(Especially for the eBay price of $50.45!)

This Bad boy is the driving force behind my dreaded senior project in high school. I have chosen to research the various moods conveyed among different photography mediums for my paper (ack.) But my product that must accompany the research is going to be a little more interesting than that 10 page report.
I am going to produce a portfolio containing different manipulations of Polaroid pictures that I have taken. And I'm going to do my best to show up those who have also chosen to make a photography portfolio. In the end, they are just going to go back to their computers and make a digital mess of their already over edited images in photo shop.

Even if Polaroid doesn't even think so (traitors), Old School is the way to go.

Once I can get my hands on this super-expensive-discontinued film, my project will begin...

Until then------PEACE
